I cannot understand how and why Tea-Party politicians are supported by any voters as they seem to be determined to destroy all of the advances the most completely developed and powerful nation in the world has made in the past 80 years - apparently because they for some reason fear the very power of the government they own and run.
I can only conclude that they reject the very notion of Democracy - even a democracy that protects minority rights better than any other that has ever existed.
These anti-american, anti-government radicals have collected a sizable following of voters, apparently because they are well-funded and can afford massive publicity campaigns directed toward the less knowledgeable potential voter. This coupled with a low voter turn-out, partially due to clever anti-democratic gerrymandering has given them a disproportionate advantage in Congress, which coupled with poor leadership in either major party, has led to our current impasse and fiscal crisis.
I urge readers to become more active in politics - at least to the extent of educating themselves in real truths about issues and the real agenda of those candidates standing for election.
It is my considered opinion that many voters are voting contrary to their own best interests - especially economic best interests.

I think that people are so disgusted and looking for anything that will change things, but, it isn't always change for the better.
Change for the sake of change is a very bad idea. If you are not satisfied with your congressperson, tell them why and try to select a candidate who both represents your opinions and best interests and who is sensible enough to realize that a democracy demands compromise and statesmanship.
It helps if they have at least some knowledge of American Political and Social History.
TV commercials are a very poor way to learn about the candidates
Turns out that the eighty member core of the republican radicals are acting perfectly rationally from their point of view. Their districts are far from representative of the nation as a whole - mostly rural, white, affluent, solidly conservative with not very many registered Demos.
Apparently the other republican Representatives are going along with them because they fear they will get tea-party primary challenges - in other words they put their re-election security far ahead of their commitment to service as governors of the country - and thus violate their sworn oaths of office.

Just because people don't like big government does not make them anti-american or anti-democratic. The majority of american citizens want the government out of their lives. As for destroying all the advancements of the past 80 years, I think you have confused Tea-Party supporters with the President.
