Unfortunately my wife and I both are having rather serious medical problems - hers a lot more serious than mine.
My problem is a very painful Sciatic nerve problem which makes it difficult for me to access this blog for more than a few minutes at a time - so I'll necessarily be brief.
My wife's problem is newly discovered serious colon cancer - we are still quite up in the air about how serious - all the pathology and CT scan reports aren't back yet.

Anyhow - I'm delighted at the response my last blog got - Thanks to all of you.

Immigration and Tax reform are two political subjects I have, as I think most of us do, fairly strong feeling about, but I think my reasoning may surprise some of you - I'll add them the next time I can sit down

  • Prayers & well-wishes for your wife. Colon cancer is serious business. I am praying that it has been found in time to be less serious than it otherwise might be.

  • I'm sorry to hear that the medical issues have seemed to worsen. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your wife.

  • Thanks for your good wishes - I'll keep you posted.
I'm still developing my ideas about immigration and tax reform. As far as taxes go I tend to follow the old saw: "Take the tax off whisky and apply it toward the schools"

  • I really hope for some good news for you and your wife I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds!

  • @tychecat -

That's just because you don't like whisky. Can we make just a little exception for islay scotch?

  • @italian_culture -

LOL Dario, you have been tripped up by a famous nonsense slogan.
I don't dislike whisky - and neither did that politician who first came up with the confusing slogan.

  • I do have some views about immigration AND tax reform (when have I not - I just don't always share) but I'll have to think a bit and compose before I post. I really hope you are feeling better soon. It's hell getting old, isn't it? But better than the alternative, as I keep hearing these days. And I must agree. My doctor started saying that to me when I was just over 40! And that was a long time ago. Blessings on you and your wife.

  • My blogging has been restricted lately mainly because it is painful for me to it at the computer for very long at a time - I'm hoping for some relief soon- maybe this afternoon (probably not)

  • No relief yet - maybe this afternoon (Dr had office major plumbing collapse - rescheduled)
I'm all doped up and so can sit here for a time - concerning immigration:
The latest super cruel idea seems to target those born here whose parents were not invited in - a major change in our fundimental law (14th amendment) which would be virtually impossible to change. That important amendment starts with the simple declaration that:
All persons born or naturalized in the U.S. and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the U.S. and of the state wherein they reside
The "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" means everybody subject to the laws of the U.S. - this would exclude foreign diplomats and their families as well as certain other foreign visitors - like foreign armed force members assigned here, for example. Everybody else - including illegal immigrants is "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" and children of them born here are citizens automatically. Since almost all Americans are the children of immigrants and most of us are citizens by virtue of our birth; any attempt to alter this law should be rejected.

  • So sorry to hear about both of your health concerns. I do hope all goes well! You both are in my thoughts.

  • Thought I will drop by and hear how it is going...How are you doing?

  • My wife goes in for her op (Laproscopic hemicolectomy) tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
I go in to get my knees replaced on the 30th.
I have this neat little Verizon thingy that lets my MacBook Pro either go 3G phone modem or WiFi - so eventually I'll be commenting from rehab - I hope
There is a big bandwidth spread and speed spread between the two modes - 3G is about twice as fast as WiFi. The cable modem I usually use is about 6-7 times as fast as the 3G. All, of course, are many times faster than dialup.

  • My wife had her op this morning, All went well, but she is hurting as this was a major op. It will probably take her some time to recover, while she is, I'll be going in for knee surgery, Wish me luck
