Home decorations
This is a curious question but I suppose it will give us some insight into minds, opinions, and taste:
When I was a college student I had lots of posters on the walls- everything from French Impressionists to Aeroflot travel posters to bad repros of cave art. At one time I had old map repros and repros of paintings of sailing ships as well as a couple of sailing ship models.
Now on the walls, I have seventeen of my own paintings, one by my sister-in-law, a slab of limestone with two fish fossils, an Army Officer's dress sword, and two Mandarin civil rank panels (3rd and 5th grade - antiques - embroidered silk, silver and gold bullion). One of the afore-mentioned ship models is on the mantle and there are a number of sculptures and curiosities laying around. It all sort of resembles that mess that opens PBS's Masterpiece Theatre.
This is just the stuff that's out - someday I'm going to have an e-bay garage sale, but not before my artistic talent is recognized

Your house sounds beautiful. I've chosen the more conservative approach of simply adorning a couple of my corners with cobwebs.
Oh yeah, we've got them also. I would not describe the decor as "beautiful". Interesting maybe.
People tend to fall in groups when it comes to wall hangings. Either not any, a few photos, a decorative reproduction or two, or kind of pack-ratty.
I fall in the last group. I suppose my wife and I are sort of left-over beats (Pre-hippies) but most of the woven string slogans and and knotted macrame is all gone now.
I suspect your age group has something to do with your household art. I think we hang on to meaningful symbols - but for some reason some of us are reluctant to display them.
Why do you suppose that is?
A problem with displaying original art in your home is that the good stuff has gotten so damn expensive.
RYC, I've only done a little bit of support for users of satellite access, but none of them so far have been pleased with it. They report the speed as being slower than basic DSL a lot of time, and the service is less than reliable. If you don't have a clear view of the southern sky, you're not going to be able to get a good connection. Something to consider if you're residing in a heavily wooded area.
I have several giant insects that were drawn by one of my cousins. They are really very good but will never be considered great art. I have scratchboards done by that same cousin. They really are lovely Kansas mission scenes. I have scratchboards done by myself, my daughter, and my son when we were each in school. they have no artistic merit at all. I have a wonderful watercolor of the San Antonio River Walk and another of the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec. Both were done by local artists and bring back memories of enjoyable trips. I have a still life done by my mother.
None of these things will probably every have any value to anyone but me.
I think of my home as my sanctuary so I try to create an atmosphere where I feel most at peace. I use soft shades of purple, pink, yellow and green. I noticed that I have a tendency to put up impressionist paintings of flowers. I also enjoy drawings of cats. Cats always seem to be very at ease with themselves and seem to be at home wherever they are. I like it when everything is simple yet functional but still feels comfortable and lived in. I don't like putting up large drawings of people, I don't know why but somehow I feel that unbalances the room.
Where I am living now feels dissonant though, ever since I moved in I really haven't had the time or energy to invest in decorating. The room is bigger than I'm used to and makes it feel stark and empty. I was thinking of using a rich chocolate brown and a warm dark pink on one wall to bring it in a bit and make things feel more cosy. Unfortunately I can't paint the walls or do anything permanent to them so right now they're just blank, empty, and white.
I do paintings and drawings - and then toss them. The other day, I was out somewhere and saw artwork that looked just like mine - childish, bold colors, and so on - and was selling for a lot of money.
Apparently getting over my shyness with my work could get me money
I was wondering if you are still unable to access my site? I have no idea why that problem was occuring...
